What the OK Senate is doing on its Summer Break…

Posted in GCV - State News by Jenn on July 22, 2008

Aah, summertime. Lemonade, lake vacations, and long nights on the deck, right? So, how are our OK Senators spending our tax money on their “off-time” this year? Here are some of the studies planned for the year:

  • termite prevention and “termiticide” (I’m not sure, but I think that’s the P.C. term for “wiping termites off the map”.)

  • financing and constructing public schools (the ones only 17% of Oklahomans really want to send their kids to)
  • including Web 2.0 in the state legislature (Welcome to the 21st Century, y’all!)
  • cost-of-living increases for Dept. of Ed retirees
  • workforce development (You know, we need to figure out how to find workers for all those jobs the illegal aliens have been doing, that “Americans won’t do,”…suuuure.)
  • alternatives to incarceration (How about public hanging?)
  • requirements for becoming a judge in Oklahoma (Hopefully, the understanding that judges are supposed to interpret the law, not make the law will be one of the new requirements.)
  • alternative bridge technologies (I hope they build some draw bridges – those are cool!)
  • flooding in Broken Arrow (Drawbridges would solve this one, too.)
  • and the ever-important: enhancing penalties for operating watercraft on state waters while under the influence (I imagine some on-location research will be needed for that one.)

Well, as long as they’re making good use of our money, huh? Read more, here.
