That’s not how the (Omni)Bus Rolls (Updated – Harry Reid Gives Up)
Update 7/29/08:On Monday, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) didn’t get the 60 votes he needed to pass a multi-billion dollar budget increase for taxpayers. CQ Politics has more.
Original post 7/21/08: When Oklahoma’s Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) says “No!” he means it. And he’ll keep saying “No!” even if he has to say it 100 times. He doesn’t think Oklahomans and Americans should have to pay more taxes, and it deosn’t matter how pretty the Democrats make the tax increase packages. What part of “No!” is the Senate not understanding, we’re wondering here in Oklahoma.
Well, all of it, apparently, because Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) is throwing a temper tantrum, calling all of these “No’s” an “Omnibus,” (very much a misnomer), and trying to force all of the bills Coburn has blocked through in one vote, resulting in a large tax increase for voters, overnight.
Hopefully, Senator Reid will learn what most of us did when we were about two years old – “No!” means “No!”
Updated: The Omnibus Bill has been estimated to be worth approximately $25B (That’s 25,000,000,000,000!) So, Harry Reid thinks that it will be easier to get one $25B bill through the Senate that it might have been to get several smaller ones through? Here is a copy of the letter that Coburn and 19 of his colleagues have signed, in an attempt to filibuster the omnibus bill.
