Posted in GCV - Green Country News by Jenn on April 22, 2009

As many of you know, for some time now, I’ve been the author of Green Country Values in Northeastern Oklahoma, as well as the administrator of the Ft. Hard Knox, project for political conservatives nationally.

Because of the growing Tea Party movement, and the attention that conservatives are now placing on their state and local governments, Ft. Hard Knox has been increasing its coverage of state and local political news.

I’m happy to announce that effective immediately, Green Country Values will now be a part of the Ft. Hard Knox project. I hope all of you will join me there, and continue reading on a regular basis.

The URL www.GreenCountryValues.com is being forwarded to the State of Oklahoma category on Ft. Hard Knox. Please make a note of this new address (http://forthardknox.com) and the new feed url (http://feeds2.feedburner.com/fthardknox) so that you’ll continue to receive information and updates.

If you haven’t already, I also invite you to sign up for the Ft. Hard Knox WebWarriors Newsletter, HERE.

Brogdon plan would provide up to $2.6 billion in tax rebates to Oklahomans

Posted in GCV - State News by Jenn on April 10, 2009

(Updated)

brogdonFrom OK State Rep. Randy Brogdon (R-Owasso), who is running for the Republican nomination for Governor in 2010:

Yesterday, I announced my plan to introduce legislation that would provide up to $2.6 billion in tax rebates to the people of Oklahoma.

The reason I have proposed this legislation is simple – Governor Henry has chosen to listen to President Obama and the Washington insiders on how and where your tax dollars should be spent. The legislation I have proposed will put the choice on how to spend your money back in your hands.

For every dollar of President Obama’s stimulus program that Governor Henry decides to spend, I will introduce legislation that rebates the same amount back to the people of Oklahoma.

If Governor Henry decides to take the full $2.6 billion, then my plan will first start by issuing a sales tax rebate of $400 per person.

That means a family of five would receive a $2000 tax rebate.

After that, we would rebate up to $1 billion of what Oklahomans paid last year in income taxes. That could amount to an income tax rebate of anywhere up to 40% for the average Oklahoman.

This ensures that all Oklahomans get back their tax dollars with ‘No Strings Attached’. And that’s what my whole debate with Governor Henry on the stimulus money has been about.

If we truly want to stimulate Oklahoma’s economy then let’s take the money out of the hands of the Washington politicians who want to tell us how to spend it and let you and I decide how to spend our tax dollars!

In the next few weeks, I encourage you to call your State Legislator and show your support for the Brogdon Rebate plan.

Together we can revitalize our economy and ensure that the people of Oklahoma will receive their tax dollars with “NO STRINGS ATTACHED!”

Sincerely,

Randy Brogdon

www.Wednesday: The Washington Times Copies the AP – Starts Charging Bloggers to Quote Them

Posted in GCV - Tech Tips/Blogging/Web 2.0, GCV - U.S. News by Jenn on April 8, 2009

Sign up for our Weekly Web 2.0 Newsletter here!I was a sent a lead today by a publishing agent to an article published by one of his clients. In the process of researching to see if I wanted to write about the article, I noticed that the Washington Times is now using a system that is very similar to the one used by the Associated Press, whereby it is charging bloggers to quote from its stories.

If you want to check it out, click on the “Click here for reprint permissions!” link at the bottom of their stories. Basically, you can use the story for a month but then it has to be taken down, or you have to pay at least $300. Bloggers usually don’t take stories down after a period of time, because we rely on links to and from those stories to help us build page rank in the search engines.

For more information on the mainstream media’s war on new media, check out the latest attempt by the Associated Press to intimidate bloggers, HERE.

What does this mean for bloggers, citizen journalists, members of the new media? It simply means that we need to do what we should have been doing all along – know our rights under the fair use laws, do our own research, link to each other, and refuse to allow anyone to monopolize the free flow of information.

Henry Vetoes Voter ID Bill

Posted in GCV - State News by Jenn on April 8, 2009

From KTUL:

Gov. Brad Henry has vetoed a voter identification bill he says could make it more difficult for some voters, including the elderly, to cast their ballots…He cited opposition from the nonpartisan League of Women Voters and the American Association of Retired People…

Notice that Governor Henry is deliberately ignoring support from the Oklahoma House, Senate, and voters.

According to a press release on his website:

At a time when it is difficult to attract more than half of the registered voters to the polls at any given election, we must make voting easier and more convenient for registered voters, not more difficult and confusing.

Huh?! What’s confusing about showing an I.D. to prove who you are. Because of the frequency of fraud and identity theft in our world today, it is now necessary to show an I.D. to do just about anything – and this includes elderly people – to write or cash a check (including a social security check), drive, open a bank account, look at an apartment…the list goes on.

Governor Henry, informed citizens who want to exercise their right (if, indeed, they have the right) to vote, will do so – even if it requires getting in their wallets and flashing an I.D..
